The Now and the Not Now! One is the mother of time

“In order to avoid the now, we have to imagine the ‘not now’, which is time.

Thus, the separate, inside self is the mother of time.

If we think of peace and happiness in this way–as an absence of agitation and lack, rather than a positive state of the body or mind–they never become objectified.

They never become an object that can be sought in the realm of the mind, body and world, but always remain synonymous with the simple knowing of our own ever-present being as it is, independent of the conditions of the mind, body or world. “

My Two cents: Is this why we can not chase happiness?

If peace and happiness are as an absence of agitation and lack, we need to stop searching, trying to complete ourselves externally.

What an enormous shift for our lives, changing our focus from an object to being present, empty, alert, calm.

Does this change the way you think or feel?

Presence: the Art of Peace and happiness

“Peace and happiness are not states of the body or mind.

All states of the body and mind, however pleasant, appear and disappear in Awareness.

Peace may be thought of as an absence of a sense of agitation or resistance, and happiness as the absence of a sense of lack.

This absence of the sense of agitation, resistance and lack is our natural condition. It is inherent in our true nature of aware Presence.

The arising of the sense of resistance and lack eclipses the peace and happiness that are naturally present within us, and it is responsible for the contraction of our self into an apparently separate entity.

This imaginary entity is defined by its rejection of the now, the rejection of the current situation, and its subsequent search for peace and happiness in the future.

In fact, the separate self is not an entity.

It is an activity of avoiding and seeking.

This sense of resistance and lack is the essential ingredient of the imaginary inside self.

In resistance we are pulled towards a past; in the sense of lack we seek something other than the current situation, and this propels us towards a future.

Resistance and seeking are the two essential forms of the separate self and are responsible for the avoidance of the now.

In order to avoid the now, we have to imagine the ‘not now’, which is time.

Thus, the separate, inside self is the mother of time.”

Awareness is impacted by time and speed!

Awareness thrives when the mind is focused and going slow.


Time impacts our awareness. Look how we act when we find ourself late for an important meeting. Being late accelerates our speed, we almost reach panic stage, unaware of everything but being late.

 

The mind races when we lose focus. Our bodies can go supersonic, however the mind works best going slow, being focused, empty of the noise.


While meditating, we intentionally slow the breath, which slows the nervous system, which helps us focus, letting the mind empty itself.

 

Using your breath, slow your heartbeat.

Then slow it some more.

 

Lengthen your breaths, extend the exhales, try to stop your heart, gently.

Time: Time is a man made trap for living hurriedly in complete unawareness. If I did not know any better, I would say the “Ego” invented time to control us. So, eliminate hurry, being late, rushing, time constraints or suffer.

Judgment: Vacate any judgment already contemplated. Next stop judging situations, others and especially you. Judgments attach to us, like a ball and chain of negative baggage. It is similar to carrying a backpack with 75 pounds of weight throughout the day. Why?

Life becomes harder with each step.

Speed: Let the body go supersonic, the mind performs at its optimum going slow, focused, aware, empty of thought, oblivious to time constraints. When the mind is filled with stress or anxiety, it presses down on the accelerator, missing the scenery of life.

Combine mindfulness practice with these three concepts and life will improve for you.

Happiness is a present moment, internal commodity.

That means past or future combined with external stimuli contains nothing but waste.

Thought is ephemeral, air without action to the centered mind.

At least we can discount its importance and let go of judgments around time.

Make few judgments on the basis of time.

Time brings constant judgment, we are early, on time, late.

How did we do? Well, we have forgot about the journey and replaced it with performance. Not good.
