Trauma destroys reasoning and language when it is TRIGGERED!!!!!!

From the post: UNDERSTANDING THE BRAIN AND BODY IN TRAUMA:

“The brain becomes somewhat disorganized and overwhelmed because of the trauma, while the body goes into a survival mode

and shuts down the higher reasoning and language structures of the brain.”

My two cents: This makes sense to me. Why would we continually be afraid of the same trauma triggers without any specific consequence.

After our fight or flight mechanism fires, we go through our physiological changes with heart rate, loss of fine motor skills, etc.   We react as the panic attack surges,  gets stronger,  then starts to fade, finally calming down.

Next cortisol and adrenaline dissipate, while respiration, heart rate and blood pressure return to normal. Fine motor skills and reasoning return.

No damage can be found. Our own defense mechanism has fired, erroneously then receded back to normal.

Without language, how would you communicate any knowledge. No printed word or ideas. If communication is 70% non verbal, then visual signs are the dominant sense to experience trauma, along with smell and touch.

The left brain has partially shut down, reality and time are extremely distorted.

The right hemisphere is working fabulously, present, brilliant and uncluttered.  It only knows this present moment.

The right side of our mind can not even imagine there is a past or future.

We can not think our way out of traumas invisible prison.

Trauma distorts reality, time and even our cognitive function.

This is why awareness of specific triggers, slowing the breath and staying in the moment, will stop the monster.

Sometimes I am shocked when I suddenly out of the blue feel anxiety. I can separate myself from the emotion, evaluate, and know the trigger.

    Very powerful and comforting.

  2. Awareness begins any journey. Narcissists rarely improve or change because awareness never arrives.

Awareness: Look how unaware of we are about our internal world. Our nervous system reacting to a perceived threat scares the hell out of us. We react avoid, become hypersensitive, and give power to PTSD.

Knowing that PTSD is stored as a fragment helps us realize it is puny.

It is so much more secure, safe to let that mirage go.

    Yes.

    Awareness

    Fragment

    Puny

    Mirage

Doesn’t stop episodes but takes wind out of it’s power.

  4. Adds perspective to an irrational disorder.

We know we can build a focus on the breath to withstand a fragment much easier than a monster.

It’s not King Kong it is a mirage.
