Sometimes, Healing can be scary, confusing, paralyzing!

As I work with trauma people trying to heal, I am reminded how confusing, paralyzing and scary the journey can be.
.
PTSD, when triggered releases real drugs (cortisol and adrenaline) into our systems, igniting our fight, flight or freeze mechanism.
.
.
PTSD is at its most powerful at this moment.
.
.
PTSD is also at its most vulnerable at this moment.
.
.
When we are able to focus intently on the breath, staying present during our fight or flight mechanism firing, PTSD loses power.
.
Our old habits of avoiding, denying, going to another place or just freezing loses influence.
.
Healing can be a moment to moment battle at times.
.
We have to rest in the awkward, in the uncomfortable, in the middle of scary to heal.
.
When the nervous system, our fight or flight mechanism becomes our friend, we will heal!
.
Practice, practice, practice, and never give up.
