The Heart of Meditation: letting go of attachment

.
.
“The third kind of detachment is subtler.
.
It involves letting go of our attachment to being the thinker, the one who identifies with the thoughts and desires.
.
the one, in fact, who constantly, if unconsciously, chooses to think.
.
Instead we identify ourselves with the witness, the watcher of thoughts.
.
We don’t try to cast out thoughts.
.
We let them be there, but we pull back from them.
.
We identify with the one who watches the thoughts.”
.
.
.
.
The thinker is our ego, the judgmental engine of our being.
.
The Ego is never equal to another ego, always better or not as good.
.
Our “Egos” can assume any identity, victim, hero, heroine, champion, loser or failure.
.
We are none of these.
.
We give such importance to our Egos machinations.
.
These thoughts  and judgments are air (powerless) unless we honor them with attention and emotion.
.
