Sit in a comfortable, upright posture, with eyes closed, regard your inner consciousness. You are not looking for anything. You are just observing your own inner world with your inner eye. Perhaps you see blue light or a field of gray, or perhaps you see a haze of darkness filled with tiny points of light, like a pointillist painting.

.

.

You are looking at what in Sandskrit is called chitta, the mind-stuff, the inner consciousness. This is the energetic ground from which all thoughts, perceptions, and sensations arise.
.
.
Now, notice the dynamic quality of this inner consciousness. Notice how there Is a constant shimmer of subtle movement, a kind of vibration or pulsation within it. Your inner consciousness is made of energy. It vibrates, and it is that vibration that gives rise to thoughts and feelings and images.
.
.
See if you can become aware of the pulsation of your consciousness. In its physical form, that pulsation manifests as the heartbeat, but if you pay close attention, you can sense a subtler pulsation underlies the heartbeat.
.
.
If you do not immediately feel the subtle pulsation, focus on the throb of your heartbeat.
.
.
Stay with the heartbeat until you begin to feel it’s subtler level, or feel how it pulsation reverberates through the body.

.

.

Or, if you feel a pulsation of energy somewhere else in the body, focuson that until you gradually become aware of the subtler pulsation that underlies it.
