Trying harder is one very common strategy that we use in the hope that it will make us happy.
.
.
Another is to seek happiness through getting approval, appreciation, or admiration.
.
.
As with trying harder, which is originally based on an instinct for survival, the strategy of seeking approval is based on the survival mode of fitting into the herd.
.
.
There is nothing wrong with being part of a group; however, from an early age we distort this strategy into a means of avoiding our inner pain.
.
.
For example, if we have the belief that we’re unworthy, or that we’re nothing, we’ll seek approval from others as a way to avoid having to feel our pain.
