“Attainment in a spiritual practice is
.
.
“no attainment”
.
.
—a fundamentally not-personal experience of reality.”
.
.
“Belief in the significance of personal progress depends upon the delusion of a self-centered orientation.
.
.
Measuring our individual worth by the outcome of our actions, however, inevitably perpetuates struggle:
.
.
victors suffer to protect their “success”;
.
.
losers suffer in “defeat.”
.
.
Once caught in this trap of gain and loss, success and failure, we feel happy when we attain absorption, and disappointed when we are distracted.
.
.
In reality, however, there is no role for “self ” in spiritual attainment.
