Are you Meditating?

When you close your eyes, if thoughts never fade, is this meditation?
*
*
In my opinion, healing, and the door that opens to our expansive side, needs to have longer and longer periods of no thought, meditation.
*
*
That is, worry has ceased in waking, walking life, acceptance has become daily habit, then a no thought space is both healing and expansive.
*
*
*
If thoughts, worry, distractions fill your environment, the benefits of mindfulness do not happen.
*
*
It is more like daydreaming, following thought into dissociative storyline.
*
*
It takes being present, now, in this moment to meditate.
*
*
Meditating is not about accomplishing anything, it is about focusing on the breath to get to the expansive side of our mind.

Marty, I just listened to a webinar with Ron Siegel, who recommended that mindfulness not be used with patients who have experienced trauma, unless they are ready to handle the memories that will come up as a result of this kind of meditation. You seem to advocate mindfulness as healing for trauma. In your experience, if someone has experienced childhood trauma, do you need to wait for a therapist to let you know if you are ready to practice mindfulness?

  2. Excellent question, a clear definitive answer may not be evident. Having a therapist to guide you during your mindfulness practice is optimum.

For those not having access to a therapist, what is his solution for them?

23 vets a day are killing themselves, do they wait for a therapist

Using mindfulness to focus on the breath and let go of judgment does seem to be beneficial and yes someone may raise some trauma that will trigger them but suicide should be in the rear view mirror.

if we have a serious case of PTSD and do nothing, our chance of healing is zero.

Initiating a mindfulness practice may save our life.

Now the pros may tell us what not to do, but where is their global solution?

    I am listening?
