.
Dissociation, the leaving of this moment, entering into the past or the story lines of trauma.
.
The ego has complete control of where we place our attention at this point.
.
Dissociation fuels PTSD, revs up the dumping of cortisol, extends the life of emotions like anger, fear, hate or terror.
.
The longer we leave now, this breath, the more trauma gains in strength and time in our consciousness.
.
Remember neurosciences rules of what fires together wires together.
.
In plain English, it means the longer we dissociate, the worse our symptoms become, the more powerful PTSD gets.
.
All other symptoms would fade if we did not dissociate.
.
This is the linchpin of C-PTSD’s survival. PTSD would starve without time wandering in our past.
.
Practice staying present, it is called meditation/mindfulness and it works.
