Complex PTSD and Hypervigilance

Hypervigilance is the arousal state of alert to sense, see, hear, smell or feel eminent danger.  The tempo of this state, races past our ability to be aware and stay present.  My trauma acted rather routinely until hypervigilance and dissociation combined to power my symptoms.

This is the vicious circle of hypervigilance, dissociation and cortisol fueling each other.  I spent time trying to figure out my thoughts, to understand them, somehow fixing them.  That led to six months of agoraphobia spent in my dark garage.

You heal by observing thoughts with still awareness not by handling or thinking about them.  What fires together wires together.  Time spent with thoughts, at all, builds their hold on us.

Stop Thinking.  Simple.  Stay present.
