Buddha’s Brain:…Happiness part two,

geographer by Jan Vermeer,

Only we humans worry about the future, regret the past, and blame ourselves for the present. We get frustrated when we can’t have what we want, and disappointed when what we like ends.

*

We suffer that we suffer. We get upset about being in pain, angry about dying, sad about waking up sad yet another day.

*

This kind of suffering—which encompasses most of our unhappiness and dissatisfaction—is constructed by the brain.

*

It is made up.

*

Which is ironic, poignant—and supremely hopeful.  For if the brain is the cause of suffering, it can also be its cure.

*
Engaging trauma thoughts with judgments by the ego is the opposite of Happiness.  Suffering ensues worry, regret and blame in my life.  How about yours.

  1. Hi,I’m very glad you have a supportive hsbnaud and friend. That right there can go a long way, I’ve been told. I’m no pro but I know my wife has had person after person in her life disregard her thoughts, feelings and personal space in about every way possible. When no one listens, you learn to stop communicating. I’m glad you have people in your life that care for you.I can definitely say that writing has helped me. Even if your hsbnaud didn’t want to keep a public blog, he might want to just write privately, for himself and you. There’s also the option of keeping a private blog. Thanks for stopping by.Take care,Ben
